When it comes to picking a facial scrub, there seems to be an infinite number of options to choose from: store-bought scrubs infused with a plethora of natural and unnatural ingredients and skin care recipes that take the natural approach, but cost enough that you might as well pay for a beauty day at the spa.

We’re not going down that road today. We’re going to give you a straightforward, low cost, and organic exfoliator recipe that you’ll want to share with all of your friends and family.  Keep reading below, you’re just 3 ingredients away from creating the best exfoliator for your face and body.

Ingredient Number One

Undoubtedly the best ingredient of them all – Brown Sugar!

Yes, brown sugar is the active exfoliating ingredient in this recipe.  It’s coarse enough to be an effective exfoliator for your body, but soft enough that if used gently, works wonders for your face.

Ingredient Number Two

Coconut Oil

This all natural ingredient is the base that holds this recipe together.  Coconut oil has natural moisturizing properties, but also helps smooth out the exfoliating process so it isn’t too rough on your skin.

Ingredient Number Three

RoseHip Oil is a wonderful organic moisturizer and pairs well with coconut oil.  It has been used for many years to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

After you finish exfoliating your face, feel free to dab a few drops of rosehip oil on your face. RoseHip Oil is a must have for those that want to reduce the signs of aging naturally.

Let’s Mix It

In order to put this recipe together, you’ll need a mixing bowl and a wooden spoon (essential oils breakdown plastic) and of course, all of the other ingredients:

Mixing Bowl

Wooden Spoon

Brown Sugar

RoseHip Oil

Coconut Oil

Put in a half a cup (64 grams) of brown sugar into a medium sized mixing bowl.

Next, add a quarter cup (60 ml) of room temperature coconut oil.

Lastly, add a teaspoon of rosehip oil (1.5 ml)

Thoroughly blend all of these ingredients together for at least one minute.  The consistency of the facial scrub should be fairly smooth and shiny, with some coarse elements.

How To Apply It:

On a pre-washed face or body part, add the exfoliating scrub.

A few tips when using the natural exfoliating scrub on your face:

  1. Apply the scrub gently to your face.
  2. Exfoliate very carefully. The skin on your face is much more sensitive than the rest of your body.
  3. Do not get any natural exfoliating scrub in your eyes.  If so, rinse out the scrub immediately with tepid water.  If eye irritation persists, call your doctor.

Gently rub in the natural scrub, about 15 seconds per area, be careful not to rub too hard.  The idea is to exfoliate the skin, not take it off.

After you’ve finished applying the scrub and exfoliating, rinse off the scrub with warm/tepid water.

Dab dry your skin with a towel.

After your skin is dry, apply a few drops of rosehip oil to your palms and apply it to your face.

You’re exfoliating scrub is complete.

This is an easy recipe that should only take a few minutes to mix and only a few more minutes to use. It’s an excellent addition to any skin care regimen.

*While skin exfoliation can be helpful to the skin, too much of a good thing can be harmful.  While you’ll love this recipe, you should only use it twice a week at the most.  Give your skin time to recover and rejuvenate before you apply it again.
